One More from the Art Hop . . .

Meet Makayla. Her painting is on display at King Street Center right now, and we just love her artist bio too much to leave it off the blog.

Name: Makayla

Age: 8

Favorite thing to do at King Street: Draw. Because I’m basically an artist. I like to do arts and craftsy stuff.

What was the best part of your summer?: Going to Camp Hochelaga. I had fun meeting new people, because it was my first time there.

What do you want to be when you grow up?: An artist—an art teacher.

Every day, Gabriella, King Street Center's Volunteer Coordinator, has at least ten conversations like this one. Just sayin'.

Get Ready to Hop!

Meet Semplise, just one of the many kid artists whose work will be displayed at the Kids Hop at King Street Center this Saturday from 10-2!

Name: Semplise

Age: 6

Favorite thing to do at King Street?: Play games. Like Poptropica on the computer.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?: Running really fast!

If you could be an animal, what would you be?: I would be a cheetah—because that’s my favorite animal. And a cobra snake, too. I’d be both.

We're getting ready...

...for the Kids' Hop!

King Street is one of the passport sites in this year's Kids' Hop, SEABA's Art Hop for kids, on September 10th. We will be opening our doors to kids and families from 10-2. Come join us for some fun art projects, and to see art created by King Street kids!

Our campers have been busy painting self-portraits, which will be on display at the event.

Want to see what they're working on?

We hope you join us for the unveiling of these self-portraits on September 10th!

Readers' Theater

Last week we had a puppet show! With the help of Mr. Hajdun, a teacher from Champlain Elementary School who has been working with King Street campers on their reading this summer, the kids put on two shows: "The Little Red Hen" and "The Three Little Pigs."

Hear these familiar stories in their voices...

Fashion Week

Last week was Fashion Week at King Street Center. That meant that all week, Castle campers were busy designing ensembles...

sketching designs....

...and preparing for a runway show at the end of the week. When the day of the fashion show finally arrived, everyone was excited, nervous, and looking sharp!

There was time for designers to tweak their outfits:

And practice their runway walks:

Soon, everyone was lining up for the show.

Designers showed off their creations to an audience of parents, staff, and fellow campers, strutting down the runway to Michael Jackson's "Bad."

It was a great show!
