Live United Celebration Breakfast

Congratulations to all the Hometown Hero nominees celebrated at today's Live United Celebration Breakfast, presented by the United Way of Chittenden County.

King Street Center nominated two of our long-time volunteers:  Nancy Zahniser and Mark Johnson.

Nancy Zahniser, former principal at Champlain Elementary School, has run Supper and Science at King Street Center for the past two years.  Through this program, King Street Teens learn through hands on exploration about the many careers available in the science field.  Nancy also raises money to help local youths attend local overnight summer camps so that all kids can have a summer outdoors experience.

Read more about Nancy's work at King Street in our 2009 summer newsletter.

Mark Johnson volunteers in King Street Center's Afterschool Excellence Program each week, assisting with homework completion and engaging in creative games.  He has developed a following of children
who clamor to play seriously intellectual (and sophisticated) board and card games each week.  Mark is also a long-time mentor to one of the youths in our teen program.
